Designing Digital Transformation

Designing services is different from designing products. In contrast to products being discrete and tangible objects, services are co-produced by people and only provide value when they are actually used. Digital services represent a specific category of services and specifically leverage and integrate information technology in the service delivery process. Today, modern service delivery is heavily dependent on digital platforms.

In the research area “Designing Digital Transformation” we are investigating the digital transformation lifecycle:

  1. Design processes and practices, social aspects on the design team level to increase digital service ease of use and experience. Furthermore, we are delivering advanced tool support for supporting a scalable, mass-user digital service design.
  2. The partial or complete change of entire services or specific processes into a digital representation massively impacts individual employees in an organization and its customers. We are investigating contextual factors, antecedents and outcomes of service and process digitization.
