Home Office Design Seminar: Digital Citizen Science Seminar

  • Type: Seminar (S)
  • Lecturer:

Prof. Mädche (IISM), Prof. Nieken (IBU), Prof. Volkamer (AIFB), Prof. Weinhardt (IISM), and Prof. Woll (IfSS)

MOTIVATION

In times of Corona, the home office is a possible means of reducing social contacts. Thus, working from home has become part of our everyday life. However, home office life also comes with new challenges. As part of the KIT initiative wir-forschen.digital, we invite citizens in March and April to join the campaign “Home Office? Challenge accepted!”. Citizens will share their personal Home Office challenges on a public available participatory platform. Subsequently, the citizens will be invited in May to vote and comment on the articulated challenges. On this basis, we will identify the most pressing challenges.

Specifically, we will focus on Home Office challenges related to the following topics:

  • Physical activity & health
  • Security
  • Motivation & leadership
  • Collaboration tools

These topics are represented by Prof. Mädche (IISM), Prof. Nieken (IBU), Prof. Volkamer (AIFB), Prof. Weinhardt (IISM), and Prof. Woll (IfSS) who are experts in the respective fields and will be co-supervising the Home Office Design Seminar.

YOUR TASK

In this seminar you will take on a selected real-world Home Office challenge articulated by citizens and propose an innovative solution. You will learn and apply design techniques to address the challenge and leverage prototyping tools for proposing an innovative solution for it. Finally, to close the loop we will invite citizens for the final presentation of the potential solutions and collect their feedback at the end of the seminar. You will work in groups of 3 to 4 students (registration as a group is possible) and your preferences for the four topics above will be considered.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  • Explore a real-world design challenge in the Home Office context articulated by citizens
  • Understand the human-centered design process and apply selected design techniques & tools
  • Deliver an interactive prototype as a potential solution for a selected Home Office challenge
